The Organizing Committee will send a formal invitation letter to those participants who need a visa to enter Russian Federation. Before a formal invitation letter can be provided from the Organizing Committee the following personal information is needed: FULL NAME, DATE OF BIRTH, PASSPORT NUMBER and COPIES OF THE FIRST PAGE (or page with the picture) OF THE PASSPORT. Those participants who will need invitation letter, please send the above mentioned information before May 15thas an attached file via e-mail to geoconf2012@yandex.ru

Oral and poster presentations:

Colleagues are invited to submit abstracts relevant to the topic of the Conference. The language of the Conference will be English and Russian. Time for every oral presentation will be 15 minutes and 5 minutes for discussion. Slide, overhead and multimedia projectors will be available. Poster boards are 1.2 m high and 1.5 m wide.

Abstracts

Abstracts will be published in special conference volume and should not exceed 3 A4 pages (12 pt, single line spacing), including figures and references (see guidelines below). Deadline for abstract submission is May 15^th. Please, send abstracts (in .doc or .rtf format) via e-mail to geoconf2012@yandex.ru

POST-CONFERENCE EXCURSIONS 

After the three days of conference you can take part in various field-trips and excursions after the close of the Conference, on September 13-17. If you are interested in participation, please let us know which excursions you would like to take part in:

• One-day field trip to Duderhof Heights, the highest point near Saint Petersburg at 176 m.

• Visit Valaam Island with famous Valaam Monastery in Karelia region.

• Peterhof (fountains show, September 14 or 15).

• The Hermitage.

• Field workshop of INQUA Peribaltic Working Group: Valday National Park in Novgorod region. Biospheric reservation of UNESCO (from 2004). (*The number of participants is limited).

The registration fee does not cover the cost of travel to the place of the conference, accommodation and excursions except the field-trip to Duderhof Heights.

Details and costs of the field trips and excursions will be available for review after the end of registration.

Marine geologist Joern Thiede, former director of the AWI Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Sciences and current president of the ERICON council, is one of 40 winners of grants from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. These projects are aimed at attracting eminent scientists from all over the world to Russia. Prof. Thiede is going to establish a new interdisciplinary laboratory at the faculty of geography and geoecology of St. Petersburg State University. He will be responsible for a laboratory “Palaeogeography and geomorphology of polar countries and the World Ocean”, aimed at palaeogeographical, geological, geomorphological and geochronological studies of relief and various types of sediments. The new laboratory will also be a centre of education in the above mentioned fields of science. In total, 512 scientists and 179 Russian Universities took part in the announcement. Joern Thiedes project is funded with 50 millions Rubles.
